Regarding Fran\u00e7ois Pompon’s white bears
\n(see Gazette<\/em> No. 44 of 2022, page 20), traceability\u2014
\nnot on the ice floe but in terms
\nof provenance\u2014is essential.<\/p>\n

The one reproduced on page 108 is a first and unique
\nreduction in Carrara marble, dated 1923.
\nIt was acquired by the current owner’s father from Doctor Miguet, veterinarian at the Jardin des Plantes menagerie, and
\nhas been kept in the same family ever since. It is therefore imbued with respectability, and Ms. Colas, the<\/strong>
\nsculptor’s specialist, will include it in her Catalogue Raisonn\u00e9<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

The plantigrade readily accepted a bid of \u20ac245,000.<\/p>\n
