The Expert
Former director of Galerie Drouart, Arthur Cavanna represents the fourth generation of a family of art dealers. He was admitted to the Union Française des Experts in 1985 for Italian and Spanish painting of the 19th and 20th centuries as well as for post-war painting of Réalités Nouvelles from 1945 to 1970. A former student of the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-arts in Paris, he opened Galerie Drouart in 1971 with Daniel Schidlower, at 16 rue de la Grange-Batelière in the Drouot district of Paris. He quickly specialized in post-war painting of Réalités Nouvelles and published, with his partner, several reference works including: - "Qu'est-ce que le Musicalisme", Galerie Drouart, 1990. - "A.F. Del Marle, 40 ans d'avant-garde, 1912-1952", Galerie Drouart, 1989. - "Groupe Espace, Groupe Mesure: l'esthétique constructiviste de 1951 à 1970, une aventure du XXe siècle", Galerie Drouart, 2009 (with the collaboration of Domitille d'Orgeval). Other important exhibitions followed until the gallery closed in 2012. Today, Arthur Cavanna devotes himself exclusively to expertise for several auction houses and collectors as well as to writing two catalogues raisonnés with the collaboration of Néringa Julia Visockyté: • Felix Del Marle 1889-1952 - Architectures and Paintings from 1912 to 1952 • Vera Rockline 1896-1934 - Russian Artist from Tiflis to Paris Arthur Cavanna is president of the artist committees for Giuseppe de Nittis, Félix del Marle and Vera Rockline. Composed of several members, these committees meet two to three times a year and aim to promote the work of these painters. To this end, they gather all documents relating to the artist and their work in order to assist with expertise and guarantee the authenticity of works to individuals, professionals and institutions who own or wish to acquire paintings by these artists.Bibliography
