Swiss work - Singing bird watch box in gold, enamel, and pearls with a musical clockwork movement, featuring a painted enamel medallion in the center depicting "the return of the warrior." Mechanism attributed to the Rochat Brothers and maker's mark inside the lid "IC G.R" for the workshops of Jean-Georges Rémond. Height 2.5 cm, Length 9.5 cm, Width 5.7 cm, Gross weight 368 g - PROVENANCE The mention under the central panel "Weeks Rl Mecanicl Museum" confirms the provenance of this object from the Berry-Hill collections, illustrated in the book "Les Automates" by Alfred Chapuis and Edmond Droz, described on page 203, Fig. 239, "Rich singing bird snuffbox and watch, circa 1800 (Berry-Hill Coll.)" and subsequently appearing in the collections of King Farouk, lot 551, sold by Sotheby's from March 10 to 17, 1954, at Koubbeh Palace in Cairo, Egypt. The Expert
Geoffroy Ader is the founder ofAder Watches. He has been an expert in horology for auctions and a consultant for the Swiss watch industry since 1995. Geoffroy Ader gained recognition for his expertise in historical watches while working for international auction houses such as Antiquorum, Sotheby's, and Artcurial, with whom he sold significant collections such as those of Lord Sandberg in Geneva, George Daniels in London, and the Fondation Napoléon in Paris. He has led watch auctions in Geneva, London, New York, and Hong Kong, and continues to do so to this day in Monaco for Artcurial's horology sales. He is highly regarded for his knowledge of antique watches from the 16th century to the present day, notably participating in 2022 in the "A History of Time" sale with the Aguttes auction house. He possesses an in-depth knowledge of watch history, craftsmanship, and market trends, which has made him a trusted authority in the field. He is also a member of the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève Academy. Geoffroy Ader is also the expert for the DNID at the Ministry of Finance and participates in public interest missions with the various departments attached to this public administration. Finally, he provides consulting services to collectors and enthusiasts throughout Europe and also participates in numerous exhibitions, such as the OAK collection organized at the Design Museum in London in 2022.Bibliography
