The Expert
An antique dealer originally from the Lyon region, based in Paris for thirty years—twenty of which at the Marché Biron in Saint-Ouen—Jean-Pierre Serre has been regularly working with the artistic productions of "Verrerie Schneider" since his debut in 1980, a company that was present at the Lyon International Fair as early as 1919. His training in Applied Arts sensitized him to the artistic approach of the great creators and master glassmakers of the late 19th century, particularly Émile Gallé and the École de Nancy, Victor Prouvé, Louis Majorelle, and the Daum manufactory, where Charles Schneider began his career. Since 2012, Jean-Pierre Serre has been a certified expert with the Union Française des Experts for the work of Charles Schneider, an established artist who, from 1925 onwards, distinguished himself through an aesthetic transformation characterized by the unique coloration of his glass creations; these are signed "Schneider" or "Le Verre Français," sometimes followed by "Charder." His colorful palette was revolutionary at a time when technology was making enormous strides: he worked in close collaboration with Babille, a chemist from the Sèvres manufactory. A collector of the creations of Charles Schneider and his son, Robert-Henri Schneider, and backed by the recognition of his peers, Jean-Pierre Serre considers it of primary importance to provide his clients with reliable references for their purchases or sales and to guide them judiciously in their collecting endeavors. Author of the photographs and captions for the catalog of the European traveling exhibition "Schneider, les Enfants d’une œuvre," he actively participated, between 2012 and 2016, in the presentation of more than three hundred works across eight cities in four European countries.Exhibitions / Bibliography
