Elio Guerin, expert in collectible watches
A graduate in Law and Art History from the Sorbonne, Elio Guerin quickly discovered a passion for horology. He worked in several French auction houses, developing an expertise that would specifically focus on diving watches. He creates and develops the Horology departments for several auction houses. In 2019, alongside interior designer Tristan Auer, he participated in the design of a sales catalog linking two related fields: classic cars and watches. The innovation was there. With numerous atmospheric photos, the sales catalog was as attractive as a magazine, opening the specialty to new collectors and enthusiasts. Since 2020, Elio Guerin has been working in concert with expert Alexis Francis-Bœuf within the Millon auction house. Four horological sales take place annually, with offerings reflecting the variety of the collectors' market: from 18th-century onion watches to contemporary Patek Philippe pieces with grand complications. As an expert for the Crédit Municipal de Paris, he provides daily expertise to accurately value the pawning of watches entrusted by individuals. Furthermore, he evaluates the pieces presented during the Paris institution's two annual horological sales. His field of expertise is vintage watches, and more particularly diving watches. The growing enthusiasm for these pieces has made increasingly thorough evaluations imperative. Their precise appraisal provides significant added value to the object and is a necessity for the buyer. A rigorous methodology guides the analysis. Documentary resources, technical research, and physical handling are cross-referenced with a detailed knowledge of the history of diving. Intuition and doubt must always be taken into account for a superior level of standard. Elio has forged close ties with many enthusiasts by assisting them in the purchase, appraisal, and sale of remarkable pieces. It was precisely thanks to the trust of a collector that he presented a historical Blancpain Fifty Fathoms watch for sale. TF1 produced a report on this subject, covering everything from the discovery of the watch to its sale, including its appraisal. The "Grand Reportage" feature was broadcast on December 24, 2023.Contact
