Yes, expertise is more relevant than ever

The new UFE website clearly illustrates the position held by our professional chamber and its affiliated experts within the art world.

Since its inception, the UFE has brought together more than 400 specialists in Ancient and Modern Art, Antiques, Collectibles, Curiosities, Ancient and Modern Sculpture, Ancient and Modern Painting, Ceramics, Printmaking, Contemporary Art, and Design…

Among them are world specialists on particular artists, or designated right-holders, recognized and specialized in the study of an ancestor’s work, as well as authors of Catalogues Raisonnés or reference monographs.

Defending a subject and protecting an artist’s work and image is a priority in a world where counterfeiting, spread from one continent to another, is becoming increasingly sophisticated. Without the standard verifications that enhance it, artistic production is stripped of its true value, becoming nothing more than an object carelessly thrown into the marketplace.

The reason why an artist, a brilliant craftsman, a decorator, or a designer… stands the test of time and continues to move and fascinate art lovers and experts alike lies in the unique, fragile, marvelous, powerful, and precious nature of their work.

The UFE’s objectives are clear: to offer its expert members solid support to carry out their activities under the best possible conditions and, simultaneously, to guarantee to all those who need their services—collectors, museums, galleries, auction houses, dealers—that they will benefit from competent, efficient, and independent expertise.

This is why the UFE Board, elected in December 2018, contributes to strengthening and improving the understanding of the status and role of the art expert on a national, European, and international scale by working closely with other European professional associations.

It is in everyone’s interest, both art lovers and professionals: without the assistance of recognized and active experts, there is a danger of confusing the fake with the genuine. Distinguishing one from the other is anything but simple.
