The Expert
Philippe Jousse trained his eye in the field of photography, where he notably worked as Guy Bourdin's assistant. Shortly thereafter, he discovered the work of Jean Prouvé and developed a passion for post-war furniture. In the early 1980s, he abandoned all other activities to dedicate himself to promoting, among a first generation of enthusiasts and collectors, creators who were then forgotten or neglected, such as Jean Prouvé, Charlotte Perriand, Alexandre Noll, Jean Royère, Mathieu Matégot, Pierre Jeanneret, Georges Jouve, Serge Mouille... all of whom had embraced and transformed the legacy of Modernism and the master Le Corbusier. After several years of activity among increasingly knowledgeable connoisseurs, Philippe Jousse organized an ambitious project in 1987: the first retrospective of Charlotte Perriand and a publication. Since then, Philippe Jousse has continued to play an essential role in shaping the taste of private collectors and French and international museums in favor of the Modernism of this period. His area of expertise is mid-20th century architectural furniture. This primarily includes Jean Prouvé but also Charlotte Perriand, Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, Mathieu Matégot, Pierre Guariche, Georges Jouve, André Borderie, Alexandre Noll, Serge Mouille, Jean Royère, Jean Maneval, Maria Pergay, Pierre Paulin, Roger Tallon, Antoine Philippon/Jacqueline Lecoq, Gino Sarfatti, Olivier Mourgue, Guy de Rougemont, François Arnal/Atelier A, Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne, Michel Boyer, Kristin McKirdy and Emmanuel Boos.Bibliography
