Originally from south-eastern Ukraine, the eighth in a Jewish family of nine children, Chana Orloff arrived in Paris in 1910 to learn dressmaking. She would go on to become a major 20th-century sculptor.

Her path would cross that of Modigliani, Soutine, and artists from Montparnasse and the École de Paris. Her studios, built for her by Auguste Perret at Villa Seurat in Paris, house nearly 200 of her sculptures.

The exhibition “Sculpting the Era” will be an opportunity to discover Chana Orloff’s work in a new way and to place certain sculptures in dialogue with those of Ossip Zadkine.
