Objects of Design are predominantly Italian, but not exclusively so. Sergio Asti, Roger Capron, Achille Castiglioni, Joe Colombo, Pierre Disderot, Garouste et Bonetti, Bruno Gatta, Gautier, Jacques Hitier, Knoll, Angelo Mangiarotti, Mott, Gio Ponti, Alain Richard, Gino Sarfatti, Tito Agnoli, Jacques Biny, Pierre Guariche, Jean-Boris Lacroix, Angelo Lelli, Robert Mathieu, Guiseppe Ostuni, Pierre Paulin, and Vittoriano Vigano are among the pillars of this art that the 1960s defined as Design, a new fusion, driven by industrial technical advancements, between art, volume, function, ergonomics, sociology, and distribution policy; it is a redefinition of the forms and functions of utilitarian objects, furniture, lighting, seating, and utensils, with the aim of global distribution and optimized commercialization.
Before these modern designers, the 19th and early 20th centuries saw great precursors who felt this modern need to adapt form to comfort and aesthetic requirements, such as Michael Thonet, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Marianne Brandt, Marcel Breuer, Le Corbusier and Charlotte Perriand, or Gerrit Rietveld; they were not designated as designers but rather as architects or decorators.
Contemporary Design, a sector that is constantly evolving and surprising, constitutes a rich, valued, and well-defined universe.
It must not be overlooked that it brings in its wake counterfeits which, being numerous and relatively well-made, inevitably mislead a large number of buyers. In this area, more than ever, the expert's advice proves invaluable.
