Expertise and Research
A Far Eastern Art expert for 20 years and a member of the French Union of Experts since 1999, Sophie Allard-Latour divides her time between appraising Asian art objects (China, Korea, Japan, India, Nepal, Tibet, Cambodia, Vietnam) for individuals and professionals, and academic research. A member of the Société Asiatique and the Centre de Recherche sur l’Extrême-Orient de Paris-Sorbonne, passionate about Chinese and Indian culture, she studied Chinese at INALCO and then Sanskrit to specialize in Buddhist and Hindu sculpture. She also completed a dual professional and academic curriculum in Art and Archaeology. Trained in the appraisal profession and the study of art objects at the Institut d’Etude Technique et Historique des Objets d’Art (IDETH) in Versailles (1991-1993) by experts specializing in the arts of China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam, with whom she continued to study for 10 years, she simultaneously pursued a university curriculum at the Sorbonne. An Art Historian, she holds a Doctorate in Art History and Archaeology from Paris IV-Sorbonne University (2013). Her research focuses on Buddhist sculpture in China from the early periods (2nd-6th century) and on Indian iconographic treatises in Sanskrit. Her appraisal practice incorporates technical, scientific, and historical aspects. The study of the object submitted for appraisal may be supplemented, if necessary, by a scientific analysis (thermoluminescence, radiography, etc.) carried out by a specialized laboratory. Her ethics are independence, rigor, precision, and confidentiality.Expertise and Valuation
Sophie Allard-Latour provides private appraisals aimed at defining the origin of an art object, establishing its authenticity based on material analysis, stylistic study, and iconography, assessing its condition, and providing a dating and valuation according to international market prices. Every appraisal is subject to a prior quote, a report, and a certificate of appraisal. She also provides appraisals for insurance contracts and inheritance inventories. All requests should be sent by email to her office: expertise.artasie@yahoo.com. Expert advisory opinions, at the request of individuals for the purchase or sale of an object, are naturally within her purview.Bibliography
