Collectible firearms can be “antiques,” historical weapons, or pieces showcasing technological innovation. They are therefore internationally recognized “cultural assets.” The motivations of firearm collectors vary widely: they can be historical, representing a particular era or a famous individual, or they can be scientific and technical, often aligning with a Militaria collection. Legally, firearms are movable property.
Precise legal rules govern the possession, storage, and transport of firearms.
A collectible weapon is either an antique weapon (or reproduction) or a deactivated weapon. Since February 1, 2019, it has been possible to collect non-deactivated Category C weapons, provided one holds a collector's card.
